Wash‑Day Routine
Wash‑Day Routine
Wash day is the most important routine for curly hair. Wrong washing habits lead to dryness, tangles and breakage.
Complete Steps
- Pre‑detangle: Detangle dry hair with fingers or wide‑tooth comb before water touches your hair. This reduces massive tangles during shampoo.
- Shampoo: Use sulfate‑free shampoo. Focus shampoo on your scalp only. Do not rub shampoo hard onto curl ends.
- Rinse thoroughly: Rinse scalp completely. Shampoo residue causes itch and dry hair.
- Conditioner: Apply conditioner from mid‑length to ends. Let it sit 3‑5 minutes. Use finger to gently detangle inside shower.
- Deep conditioning (1‑2 times per week): Use hair mask. Leave 10‑20 minutes for extra nourishment. Best for damaged, dry curls.
- Dry gently: Do not rub hair with rough towel. Squeeze excess water. Use microfiber towel or old cotton T‑shirt to press water out. Rubbing creates frizz.
Pro tip
Curly hair does not need washing every 2‑3 days. For most curly types, wash every 7‑10 days is reasonable. Avoid over‑washing.
