Styling Techniques
Great curl definition mostly happens on wet hair. Dry‑hair styling often creates frizz. Master these core curly‑hair styling skills for long‑lasting bouncy curls.
Wet‑Hair Styling Principle
Always apply styling products to soaking wet or damp hair. Water is the carrier for curl cream and gel. If hair dries before finishing styling, spray water to re‑wet sections.
The LOC Method Step‑by‑Step
LOC = Liquid‑Oil‑Cream, classic routine for high‑porosity dry curly hair.
- L (Liquid): Water / leave‑in conditioner, add base moisture.
- O (Oil): Hair oil, seal moisture inside hair cuticle.
- C (Cream): Curl‑defining cream, shape your curl pattern.
For low‑porosity hair, you can try LCO order: Liquid‑Cream‑Oil instead.
Two Useful Application Methods
Raking: Use fingers to run product through hair section by section, distribute product evenly inside each curl.
Scrunching: Cup hair upwards in palms, squeeze gently. This action activates curl clumps, brings bounce, do not rub back‑and‑forth.
Drying Tips
- Air‑dry is most gentle option.
- When using hair dryer, always attach diffuser. Use low heat setting.
- Do not touch, comb or pull curls while drying. Touching wet curls will cause heavy frizz.
